We are convinced that the active participation of volunteers in international development cooperation projects contributes significantly to our mission of combating inequalities.
For this reason, Humana promotes a 10-month International Volunteer Program alongside DHR Lindersvold.

STAGE 1 - Training

3 MONTHS IN DENMARK

During these first three months you will undergo in-depth practical training at DHR Lindersvold for your stage as a volunteer. You will learn fundamental aspects about cooperation and development as well as politics, economy, agriculture, health, culture and traditions for the proper development of the project in which you will participate.

STAGE 2 - Development Cooperation Project

6 MONTHS IN AFRICA OR INDIA

During this second stage, volunteers are involved in cooperation and development projects, actively contributing to achieving the objectives defined by the initiative. The projects relate to the following areas: sustainable agriculture and environment, health, community development and education.

STAGE 3 - Awareness-raising and reflection

1 MONTH IN DENMARK

After returning to Europe, the volunteers play a crucial role as awareness-raising agents, providing local communities with knowledge about the situation in the Southern hemisphere and the possibilities for contributing to their development and provision of socio-economic resources.

SOME OF OUR PROJECTS

The volunteers’ role is to support teachers by providing mentorship, teaching English, organizing evening and weekend programs, and collaborating with the center activities and projects.

The volunteers take part in activities such as tree planting and environmental protection campaigns, cleaning actions, sports clubs with youths, supporting income-generating activities, and more.

Volunteers support this project by sticking together with the project staff in carrying out activities like doing baseline surveys, organizing workshops for caregivers, holding nutrition lessons and cooking demonstrations, leading hygiene and sanitation campaigns, and more.

Volunteers collaborate with the adults accompanying the children, for example by providing monthly training sessions for preschool teachers, elaborating educational materials, reinforcing the community's commitment to ensure one meal a day for the children, installing vegetable gardens or improving school buildings.

FAQs

The six-month project stage is fully financed by Humana People to People and includes everything related to the project destination:

  • Monthly allowance to cover food, local transportation and some pocket money
  • Round-trip travel from Denmark to the project country
  • Vaccines and malaria prophylaxis
  • Health insurance
  • Accommodation
  • Visa

The three-month training and the final one-month evaluation stage at DRH Lindersvold are financed by you, the participants in the program. The cost for these four months is €3.500, which covers: 

  • All meals
  • Training expenses
  • Accommodation in a shared room

Humana People to People entities in Europe offer a Scholarship Plan to cover 85% of the cost (up to €3.000). You can request more information at your first meeting with our volunteer advisors. 

* You will cover all personal expenses such as travel back and forth to Denmark, medication, toiletries, sim card, clothing, laptop and any other personal items for the total duration of the program. Health insurance for the four months spent at DRH Lindersvold in Denmark will be financed through your European Health Insurance Card if you are an EU citizen. If you are not an EU citizen, you will carry this expense yourself.

1. Fill out short contact form on our website so we can get in touch with you.

2. You will receive more information about the program by email, and an invitation to book a meeting online or in person.

3. You will talk with a volunteer advisor to get a thorough introduction to the program and answer your questions.

4. You will choose the start date that suits you best and your volunteer advisor will inform you of the available scholarship options and finances. If you apply for one of our scholarships, we will ask you to complete a scholarship application.

5. After confirming that there are no remaining questions and that you are ready to enroll, you will book a final meeting online or in person to review the enrollment agreement. If you have applied for one of our scholarships, you will receive confirmation of the assignment before scheduling this final meeting.

6. After going through the enrollment agreement, you will sign it and pay the first part of the school fee to reserve your spot on the team.

7. Once you have completed your enrollment, a representative from DRH Lindersvold will contact you to help you prepare for your trip.

  • Development of capacities, enabling you to work in international cooperation.
  • Contribution to the construction of a fairer and more sustainable environment.
  • Immersion in a new culture by working in community development projects in Malawi, India, Mozambique or Zambia.
